Local Ipswich retirees, Ken and Rose completed their fifth Park2Park this year.
“It is great to be back this year for the 16th annual Park2Park supporting virtual healthcare in our community,” the pair said.
Although this year’s virtual run was an altogether new experience for the pair (like everyone who’s participated so far), it was a nice change with the new normal of COVID-19.
Ken and Rose took to the park
Both Ken and Rose took their Virtual Fun Run around the usual mapped course at Queens and Limestone Parks.
Rose walked the 5km, while Ken ran 2 laps taking him to 10km with his running friend for motivation.
“My friend and I enjoyed the 10-km run, we motivated each other to keep our energy and enthusiasm up throughout the run”, Ken said.
They said the missed the loud cheering crowd like usual years but still enjoyed the quiet run – it gave them the opportunity to clear their head.
The highlight of their running calendar
Park2Park is always the highlight of their running calendar each year now.
“I eagerly await to take part in Park2Park every year.
“It’s one of my favorite events in Queensland.
“It’s been so well organized by the Hospital Foundation each year,” he said.
What keeps them coming back
Since 2016, they’ve been participating in Park2Park and have met so many new friends year after year.
“The exercise and social interaction keeps me coming back,” Ken said.
“I have made so many lovely friends over the years of active participation.”
Staying fit and healthy
Ken, who is in his mid-60’s finds the run as an opportunity to stay healthy.
“This event also reminds us how important is to keep active to stay healthy.
“For someone like me in my mid-60’s it is a good opportunity to focus on my fitness,” Ken said.
Running for a good cause
Supporting the community and giving back just makes Park2Park even better, Ken and Rose said.
“The Hospital Foundation has been doing a great job getting our community healthier and better supported.
“It’s good that we get to support the great work they do just by registering and making a donation at the checkout.”
